Introduction of the Parish Sanctuary
There are several well-known sanctuaries in the Hsinchu diocese. For example, in Hsinchu County, Guanxi Lourdes sanctuary;St. Theresa Sanctuary in Xincheng, Holy House of Loreto in Miaoli Touwu, and on Ximen Street, Hsinchu City, There is an antique and beautiful Chinese palace-style sanctuary of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The brief introduction of the sanctuary of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Hsinchu City is as follows:
This new church building was actually designed and built by Fr. J. Palm. From 1959 to 1965, he tried hard to get funds for the construction. Finally with the support and efforts of his mother and relatives in USA, he got enough help. When he started to design the church, the Vatican had Just changed the rules for building local churches. So Fr. Palm changed his original design to a Chinese style. In 1971, there was a groundbreaking ceremony presided over by Archbishop Edward Cassidy, the papal representative. The building was finished in 1972. On Jun.4, it was consecrated by bishop Bao-Jin, Tu, and dedicated to The Sacred Heart of Jesus. Later on it was officially established as a Pilgrimage Sanctuary by Bishop John Lee.
All visitors no matter Christians or non- Christians like to come here to worship the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Many Christians and non-Christians have also asked to hold wedding mass in our church. Someone once wrote: "Our friends all like your church very much. They all said that they have never seen such a kind of church that combines the solemnity of a Western church with the traditional oriental culture. It feels very kind and familiar. How the master designer who designed this church blended the essence of Eastern and Western cultures and religions so harmoniously."
The sanctuary of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is located in the central area of Hsinchu City. The church can accommodate two hundred people and has a parking lot. There are about 20 parking spaces, a green grass garden, and a statue of the Virgin Mary. The parish also has venues for holding events and a social hall.
